The website that Mereith  and Andras share has a sectin specirically about him. too. Gentlemanly , its does appear after her section or on the right rather than left and usually read firszt part of the page. While the words of his wife’s hafl of the page practically jump out of the page describing the diffictult balance of family and work for women in a culture that then had no an now has inadequate familly leave, Andrasz’ description of hier professional life evidences no such concern about the balancing of profession and creative work with family, because as remain typical in culturesz without excelletn family leave, it is assumed that the wife will handle this balance and home responsibilities should not distract the male from profession or creative contribution. While clearly a gentle man, able to collaborate with women in a work setting and more focussed to creations that are directly for children then most men, we can assume that Andras, because he had not very subtantila family leave, was less close and spend less time with his dhildren during most of this lives then his wife, and likely less than we might have wanted. Interestingly his child focus was not encouraged by some of the men her encoutnere who were even more patriarchal, than he. In this presentation, unlike his wife, who startes her presentation with emphasis on family and her children when they were young, Andras mentions his  wife with no mention of her role and laborsz as mother, and refers his own children proudly, but apparently for the first time, as adultsz, while Meredith, likely experiencing some continued struggle with her society’s recognition of her own adult creative work with the same recognition afforde her husband, does not refer to her daugher or sons adult creative activity.

These observable contrasts in emphasis are not a comment Meredith and Andreas as individualsz, but on the cutlureall normas within they, more, creative and rebellous than most people whose imballance and role limitations may be even more glaring but never presented publically at all because there is even less self awareness of often way too rigid role imbalances and social prejudices related to self and other focus and time spent with children:

Born Budapest, Hungary, 28/10/40

I am a psychotherapist living and working in Vancouver. Born in Hungary during WWII, I immigrated to Canada at the age of 16. I hold a BA in mathematics, physics and chemistry from the University of Toronto, as well as a MA in psychology from the University of Western Ontario. In 1972, I enrolled in the psychology PhD program at SFU, however, due to disagreements with my thesis advisor, I left SFU in 1976 without completing my thesis. From January 1, 2006 on, I have refused to register in the College of Psychologists of British Columbia, which, I thought, was mismanaged and autocratic. I have been registered there since the formation of the College in 1979. I remain, however, an Honorary Life Member of the Canadian Psychological Association.

During 1974/75, I was also intensively studying and training in the practice of psychotherapy under renowned and controversial Scottish psychiatrist, Dr. R.D. Laing. I now sit as an advisor to the Society for Laingian Studies, as well as serve as a faculty member at the International R.D. Laing Institute.

I have taught, lectured and lead workshops at SFU, UBC, Emily Carr and Douglas College. I have also worked extensively overseas, mainly in Hungary. In 1989, I was a guest on a 3-part CBC Ideas radio series entitled R.D. Laing Today. I have also worked as a consultant in both television and film. Most recently (2001 & 2002) I consulted for Showcase’s Kink series. Other career highlights include work with the United Nations; founding the Integra Households Association, a non profit charity working with those in extreme mental distress; as well as Third Mind Productions, a film production company that went on to turn out the 1987 film, Did You Used to be R.D. Laing?

I was about 12 when I sent in some of my poetry to a children’s radio show, only to receive a note from the host, suggesting that I leave writing to others, but certainly, please, spare him of further samples!

Defying the fatherly advice, I kept writing, was Poet of the Month on Toronto’s CHQM radio around 1965, read my poetry at the Vancouver Art Gallery around 1970, published a book of haiku (in English and in Hungarian) illustrating photographs, in 2007. For many years, I wrote two columns for the Vancouver Mental Patients’ Association’s publication, In a Nutshell, one called, Minute Particulars, the other Bookworm.

My wife is an artist, my son a musician/writer, my daughter a poet/philosopher – I earn my living through words. I also like to play with words.

Andras and I have the most unusual experience in common: both of us,  experienced psychotherapistsz and PhDs in Psychology  ran into trouble with immigration authority at the Canada-US divide.

In my case. I had left the United Statesz region of Earth in April of 2006 in an act of desperation because I had reached my limit of tolerance for what I regarded and continue to regard as an extreme and shocking regression in US culture, particularly regarding standardsz for democracy. genderism, and social and environmental valuesz while the people of the US, for the second term, passively accepted as “President and Vice President” two men who, in fact, had never been popularly elected by the people of the jurisdiction, and a genderist Congre$$ $elected by an anacronistic and corrupr $election proce$$ deemed acceptable by an unElected Court, while  our WE ALL WIN campaign run for CoPresident with Hjalmer ~Wayne ~Erickon coordinated by a global Green Woman and a black Marylander expert on the UnderGround Railroad who had himself taken the Underground Railroad Route to Canada, had been mostly ignored, even by my own family whose relationszhips were in a divided deteriorated condition directly relleated to internalized patriarchy.  I knew that Canada had a Senate that was 35% female and offered universzall healthcare and a year of family leave to itsz citizensz, not as much as Europe but much better than the none of the United States region.  With just enough money for a bus ticket and only $47 dollars, I set out to go to the Catholic Worker in Toronto Canada amd with the plan to explore the Whole Village Intentional Community Organic Farm,  to work as an activist and assist my familyandcommunity from there, seriously considering staying in Canada and bringing as many of my family as possible to join me there more permanently.  My experiences in Canada were remarkable and I will write a retrospecting journal and add it to this website, soon. However, what is most relevant here was that after I lost my wallet with all my identification while at a bus station between Toronto and Whole Village, I became hesitant to approach the US embassy there for assistance, especially because I had been such a public dissident. Eventually, Canadian authorities discovered I had overstaid my allotted visa time, and I was arrested and taken to a Women’s Federal Prison in Canada where I remained for about 3 or 4 monthsz until my Sister sent me busfare to enable me to go back to the US after the Canadian bureacratsz had declared me an illegal alien who must leave Canada and not return for 2 yearssz.  Moszt Szadly, my runningmate, Hjalmer Wayne Erickson who was an a woman and childrens rights activist, an advocate for indigenous Americansz, and an award winning life saving geologist-mine safety engineer, left thisz Earth while I was in Canada, & I learned about thisz while there while using the Internet at the Parklawn Public Library right near the Milky Way sign and the World Globe. I contacted his daughter, Destyne, who had deeply disappointed her Dad and me showing no interest in our campaign and refusing both her Dad and my requestsz to use her skillsz asz a videographer to publicize our campaign. I have come to understand how even very progressive and New Age Spirited people, even women, will, because of complex family process and deeply rooted genderism in US culture, subvert gender equallity. There isz much more for szay about my remarkable vsiszit to Canada Earth and I will szoon add a szpeciall retroszepective TimeTravelle Jounall about it to thisz Webszite Szoon,)

Andras’ immigration problem, although he had never run for a Higheszt Office in his region or World,  led him to seek media attention, while my experience with the almost complet lack of media coverage, even alternative media, for Hjalmer Wayne and My Campagn, and the continued Presence of of Bush in the White Housze when I returned to the US in October followed by once again an all Male ticket of Obama Biden while the rest of the world was gaining on gender balance discouraged me from contacting media.  Here isz some of the coverage Andras recieved in the media:

http://www.vancouverobserver.com/life/2009/10/01/whatever-became-andrew-feldmar

This is the story of how an article traveled from The Vancouver Observer website around the world.   “Acid Free America?” by Linda Solomon was published on April 22, 2007 on VancouverObserver.com. It started here:

Andrew Feldmar, a well-known Vancouver psychotherapist, rolled up to the Blaine border crossing last summer as he had hundreds of times in his career. At 66, his gray hair, neat beard, and rimless glasses give him the look of a seasoned intellectual. He handed his passport to the U.S. border guard and relaxed, thinking he would soon be with an old friend in Seattle. The border guard turned to his computer and googled “Andrew Feldmar,”

And on April 23.  the same article went up on The Tyee’s website with this headline:

LSD as Therapy? Write about It, Get Barred from US

BC psychotherapist denied entry after border guard googled his work.

    Wednesday April 25 2007

    By Rod Mickleburgh

A former LSD user is turned away at border after guards use Internet to dredge up past…

Shortly after this, The New York Times has a reporter call Feldmar and published their own article on the story:

Web searches at U.S. border bring scrutiny to new level

    May 14 1007

    By Adam Liptak

Andrew Feldmar, a Vancouver psychotherapist, was on his way to pick up a friend at the Seattle airport last summer when he ran into a little trouble at the border.

A guard typed Feldmar’s name into an Internet search engine, which revealed that he had written about using LSD in the 1960s in an interdisciplinary journal. Feldmar was turned back and is no longer welcome in the United States, where he has been active professionally and where both of his children live…..

Note how closely these stories resemble the original published on The Vancouver Observer and The Tyee.  CBC’s How It Happens, The Guardian, Montreal’s La Presse, WIRED Magazine, the International Herald Tribune, the Financial Times, Global National TV, Forbes, NPR Seattle, and the Calgary Herald also reworked and ran the Feldmar story.  Ultimately, the online story as published on The Vancouver Observer and The Tyee came to the attention of the producers of the Colbert Report and they contacted Feldmar.

On August 20th producers remixed the story again and it appeared as the first of a series about law enforcement entitled “Nailed ‘Em” and was viewed by 1.3 million people.

The Daily Tube reported it like this:  “The Colbert Report introduces a new segment, “Nailed ‘Em,” that highlights our law enforcement success stories. Up first is the saga of how a Canadian drug lord, er fiend, er occasional user, er guy who dropped acid a couple of times thirty years ago, will no longer be allowed into America to visit his son. Our country is now safe from Andrew Feldmar, an “internationally respected” psychotherapist who had the gall to try LSD in the 1960’s and write about his far-out experiences in an academic journal. The professor’s long, strange, trip now ends at the border, thanks to an incredible new crime-fighting weapon known as Google. Go ahead kids, turn on, tune in and drop out…just know that you’ll never return from the outer-edges of consciousness known as the Great White North.  A blog that followed the Colbert Report remarked on it with an excerpt from the VO/Tyee article.

What became of Feldmar since then?  Did the doors of the US swing back open as a result of the publicity?

      Not.

“As of now (September 22, 2009) I am hoping against hope. Kierkegaard thought that hoping for something that’s possible is easy,” Feldmar told VO. “Hoping for something that’s impossible, is truly a mark of the human spirit. Well, I am still persona non grata in the USA. The US Consulate in Vancouver wouldn’t give me a hearing, but directed me to TRIP (Traveler Redress Inquiry Program) to be found on the DHS website. I complained that I never should have been detained and barred, and received a letter this June, informing me that the only way is for me to apply for a Waiver, which I have refused to do right from the time I was turned around at the border three years ago.

Applying for a Waiver is expensive and basically I have to prove with letters of reference, that I have been rehabilitated.

http://forums.canadiancontent.net/news/61635-lsd-therapy-write-about-get.html
The official said that under the Homeland Security Act, Feldmar was being denied entry due to “narcotics” use. LSD is not a narcotic substance, Feldmar tried to explain, but an entheogen. The guard wasn’t interested in technicalities. He asked for a statement from Feldmar admitting to having used LSD and he fingerprinted Feldmar for an FBI file.
Then Feldmar disbelievingly listened as he learned that he was being barred from ever entering the United States again. The officer told him he could apply to the Department of Homeland Security for a waiver, if he wished, and gave him a package, with the forms.
The border guard then escorted him to his car and made sure he did a U-turn and went back to Canada.

When Feldmar looks back on what has happened, he concludes that he was operating out of a sense of safety that has become dated in the last six years, since 9-11. His real mistake was to write about his drug experiences and post this on the web, even in a respected journal like Janus Head. He acknowledges that he had not considered posting on the Internet the risk that it turned out to be. So many of his generation share his experience in experimenting with drugs, after all. He believed it was safe to communicate about the past from the depth of retrospection and that this would be a useful grain of personal wisdom to share with others. He now warns his friends to think twice before they post anything about their personal lives on the web.
“I didn’t heed the ancient Alchemists’ dictum, ‘Do, dare, and be silent,'” Feldmar says. “And yet, the experience of being treated as undesirable was shocking. The helplessness, the utter uselessness of trying to be seen as I know myself and as I am known generally by those I care about and who care about me, the reduction of me to an undesirable offender, was truly frightening. I became aware of the fragility of my identity, the brittleness of a way of life.
“Memories of having been the object of the objectifying gaze crowd into my mind. I have been seen and labeled as a Jew, as a Communist, as a D. P. (Displaced Person), as a student, as a patient, a man, a Hungarian, a refugee, an émigré, an immigrant…. Now I am being seen as one of those drug users, perhaps an addict, perhaps a dealer, one can’t be sure. In the matter of a second, I became powerless, whatever I said wasn’t going to be taken seriously. I was labeled, sorted and disposed of. Dismissed.”

But unlike his wife, Unlike his wife, who has no self defined individual website and Presentsz herself to the World firszt and foremost in her role as wife to Andras with somewhat less highlighting of her children by Name, Andrasz. as moszt men,  has a website of his own that is professionally defined while allzso in his own name.

[R. D. Laing stated, ” psychotherapy must remain an obstinate attempt of two people to recover the wholeness of being human through the relationship between them.”]

Your fee (for returning people), X. Y., in 2015, will be: $xxx CAD or USD per 50-minute session.  [To be negotiated individually.]
Fees (for new people): The standard fee for a 50-minute session is $220. The price of the initial consultation (which is usually a double session, i.e., 1 hour & 40 minutes) is based on the standard fee ($440) and is not negotiable. Couples, families need 100 minute sessions or longer. After the initial consultation, if money would be the only obstacle to continuing therapy, the fee might be re-negotiated.  Fees can be paid in cash or by check or by INTERAC e-Transfer or by direct (bank-to-bank) money transfer or via PayPal; preferably paid ahead or session-by-session. The same fee applies for couple- or family-therapy.
Time & Place: I will work on Wednesdays & Thursdays at my home office: 4024 West 20th Avenue (near Crown Street, in the 4th block West of Dunbar Street).
Cancellations:   After an appointment is made, unless I get 48 hours notice that you won’t make it, you are responsible for the full fee.  If you give me less than 48 hours notice, and I succeed in finding someone to take your appointment, your fee will be waived. The cause of missing an appointment is of no consequence: this policy is not punitive; it is to cushion me from the vicissitudes of your life.
Note: For 45 years now, I’ve been practicing psychotherapy as a psychologist. Since January 1, 2006, Dr. Patricia Wilensky, a former registrar of the College, and I, have refused to register in the College of Psychologists of British Columbia, which, we thought, was mismanaged and autocratic. I had been registered there since the formation of the College in 1979.  I am, however, an Honorary Life Member of the Canadian Psychological Association (C. P. A. Membership No.: 1131).

Holidays: Through the year I will take about 16 of the 52 weeks off. I will give as much prior notice as I can before each stretch of time off.
